A People Strategy That Creates Value and Protects the Business
Turn HR strategy from a list of initiatives into a business thesis, investment choices, and measures of impact.
Write the value thesis
Begin with a testable sentence: ‘If we build these capabilities and shift these behaviours, we will deliver these priorities and reduce these risks.’ Connect the strategy to revenue, cost, speed, quality, risk, or scalability—not merely programme popularity.
Organise around five pillars
My HR Balance uses five connected pillars: Leadership Excellence, Organisation Effectiveness, Commercial Excellence, People & Culture, and Operating Model & Governance. Do not treat them as separate departments; show how each priority moves several pillars together.
Choose a portfolio, not a wish list
Assess each initiative for value, urgency, dependencies, delivery capacity, and risk. Decide what starts, stops, and waits. A wise strategy says a clear ‘no’ as often as it says ‘yes’.
Measure change, not activity
Link three levels: initiative delivery, capability or behaviour change, and business impact. Completing a leadership programme is not enough; examine decision quality, succession strength, and execution speed. Review assumptions quarterly and reallocate investment when evidence changes.
General professional guidance—check local law and approved company policy before implementation.
